Peer Review Process
All manuscripts submitted to Synthese: Journal of Synthesis in Mathematics Education undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to ensure fairness and objectivity.
The review process follows these steps:
- Initial Screening
- The Editor-in-Chief, assisted by the editorial team, evaluates each manuscript for its relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, quality of writing, and compliance with author guidelines.
- Manuscripts failing to meet these criteria may be rejected at this stage.
- Plagiarism Check
- All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software to ensure academic integrity.
- Manuscripts with significant similarity issues will be returned to the author or rejected.
- Peer Review Assignment
- Eligible manuscripts are assigned to at least two expert reviewers in the field of mathematics education.
- Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and absence of conflict of interest.
- Double-Blind Review
- Reviewers assess the manuscript’s originality, theoretical contribution, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, and significance to the field.
- Constructive feedback is provided to help authors improve their work.
- Editorial Decision
- Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editor makes one of the following decisions: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject.
- Revised manuscripts may undergo additional rounds of review if necessary.
- Final Acceptance and Publication
- Once a manuscript meets the required academic and ethical standards, it is formally accepted.
- The final version is copyedited, proofread, assigned a DOI, and published online as open access.
The average time from submission to first decision is targeted to be within 4–8 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and author response.
