Publication Ethics
Synthese: Journal of Synthesis in Mathematics Education adheres to the highest standards of publication ethics and is committed to ensuring the integrity of all published works. The journal follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and expects authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers to uphold ethical responsibilities at all stages of the publication process.
Responsibilities of Authors
- Authors must ensure that their submissions are original, not plagiarized, and have not been published or submitted elsewhere.
- All sources, data, and references used must be properly cited.
- Authors should present their findings honestly, without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation.
- All individuals who contributed significantly to the work must be listed as co-authors, and all co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript.
- Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation of their findings.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Reviewers must provide fair, objective, and timely feedback to improve the quality of submitted manuscripts.
- Reviewers must maintain confidentiality and not use unpublished materials for personal benefit.
- Any potential conflicts of interest should be declared to the editor.
- Reviewers should report any ethical concerns, such as plagiarism, duplicate submission, or data manipulation.
Responsibilities of Editors
- Editors are responsible for making impartial and fair publication decisions based solely on academic merit and relevance to the journal’s scope.
- Editors must ensure a transparent and rigorous peer-review process.
- Editors should maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and respect the intellectual independence of authors.
- Editors must address ethical complaints or allegations of misconduct following COPE guidelines.

- The publisher ensures that good publishing practices are maintained and supports editors, reviewers, and authors in carrying out their ethical duties.
- The publisher works closely with editors to handle cases of research misconduct, plagiarism, or publication malpractice.
